Best of Weekly Music Shows: 1/28 – 2/3
Welcome to a recap of this week’s music shows! This week featured Infinite H everywhere: Yoo Hee-yeol‘s Sketchbook with Bumkey and Primary, Immortal Song 2, and of course, the normal stages of the week. There were comebacks from SISTAR19, 4MEN, and DMTN (and of course, others) along with special stages from Super Junior M. Below are my favorites of the week, but don’t forget to comment with your own choices!
SISTAR19′s “SISTAR 19″ + “Gone Not Around Any Longer,” Mnet M! Countdown, January 31, 2013
The duo is back almost two years after “Ma Boy,” exuding the same confidence with their sultry choreography. I’m not sure if either of them understand what Bora‘s hat actually says during “SISTAR 19,” but no matter, it’s not there for long. I found the highlight of their performance of “Gone Not Around Any Longer” to be some of the pair work near the end. Actually, I liked any of the moves that focused on two people, i.e. the beginning, the already mentioned couples in the dance break, and the ending where they mirrored one another. And as usual, Hyorin‘s vocals were wonderful.
DMTN’s “Safety Zone,” Mnet M! Countdown, January 31, 2013
Desire. Motivation. Timing. Now. has made a comeback with “Safety Zone” after switching to 2workS Company, Ltd. The choreography seems to be lighter on the footwork than “E.R,” which is fortunate considering Daniel‘s recent injury at MBC‘s Idol Athletics Championship earlier in the week. But nonetheless, it’s still a rather dynamic performance that really gives each member a memorable part.
ALi‘s cover of Insooni‘s “Father,” KBS Immortal Song 2, February 2, 2013
Whoa there. ALi also made a comeback this week with “Eraser,” but this cover of Insooni’s “Father” was too good not to include. It’s no wonder several people, including Infinite‘s Hoya and Insooni herself, were in tears or holding them back. It’s also no surprise that ALi won this week.
Infinite H feat. Zion. T‘s “Without You,” SBS Inkigayo, February 3, 2013
As I mentioned in the intro, Infinite H had a lot of good performances to choose from this week. But the one that took the cake was their Inkigayo performance with Zion.T. Because how could I not pick a performance with Zion.T in it. I guess the location or set for this performance was really well done. And Hoya can work a red suit well. And overall, this was a good performance by all parties involved. But really it’s because Zion.T.
Super Junior M’s “Break Down,” SBS Inkigayo, February 3, 2013
In most of the other Super Junior M performances of the week, “Break Down” was done in a Mandarin-Korean mix. However, this performance is entirely in Korean. Personally, I think the Mandarin version sounds better. But I chose this performance because their make-up artists really deserve an A+ for how they look today. I swear Donghae, Eunhyuk, and Sungmin could all pass for someone three or four years younger than they really are. Though Siwon needs to lose that blond hair as soon as possible. As always, it is a pleasure to see Zhou Mi and Henry, especially Henry since he always looks like he’s so happy to be on stage and performs so well.
CNBLUE‘s “I’m Sorry,” SBS Inkigayo, February 3, 2013
Lastly, we have CNBLUE who lost to Baechigi on Mnet M! Countdown but took home a win on MBC Music Show! Champion and KBS Music Bank this week, so congratulations to them! Minhyuk seems to be having a ball spinning his drumsticks, and man is it nice to see him actually hitting the drums rather than pretending to.
